I have a customer that is replicating his Virtual Machines from a Hyper-V standalone host in the primary site to another host in his DR site. The hosts are installed with Windows Server 2012 R2. Veeam Backup and Replication 7, patch 4, is used to replcate the virtual machines.
All the replication jobs were working properly except for one VM, which was included in a Replication Job which contained multiple VMs in it.
The Error received was “Error: Failed to find actual VM settings.”
A Google search on the error return no results at all. Checked the Veeam forums and didn’t find anything either. I was going to log a support call with Veeam but before that I decide to take a look at the DR site Hyper-V server for completeness.
Upon opening the Hyper-V Virtual Machine Manager, I noticed that not all the VMs were listed. I checked the replication settings again to make sure that the replication was pointing to the correct host. After confirming the settings, I restarted the Hyper-V Virtual Machine Management Service on the DR host and, as soon as I open the Virtual Machine Manager, all the VMs were listed again.
I ran the replication job manually and, the VM that was failing, replicated successfully.
As mentioned above, I did not find any other mention of the error on the Veeam forums or in a Google search result, I decided to document it. Hopefully someone else will find it useful and solve the issue.
